The FreeBSD® operating system derives from BSD, the version of UNIX® developed at the University of California, Berkeley in the 1970's and '80s. FreeBSD is now widely deployed by companies as a stable, secure server operating system for web servers, databases, VoIP servers and so on, and is becoming increasingly used as a desktop system too.
FreeBSD, now in its tenth release, offers improved stability and security, additional device support, and a platform for about 30,000 applications. FreeBSD can also run Linux software and a great deal of Windows® software. FreeBSD is a coordinated release containing both operating system kernel and user utilities and libraries and is developed using a fully open process by a large group of seasoned software developers. FreeBSD is very popular amongst ISPs and web hosting providers who depend on the system's stability and ease of management.
Opal provides a full range of FreeBSD system design and deployment services, complemented with general consulting and training for management and system administrators.
